I was hoping to be able to come back and write a better review for Daikoku but unfortunately my second experience wasn't fantastic. We went last Friday for my fiance's staff Christmas dinner.

They had booked for 32 people at 7.30pm. We were seated at 7.50pm after Daikoku's manager told the organiser that they didn't expect all 32 to turn up, and he wasn't sure how to handle this many people. There was already another large Christmas group there, plus another small table. If you can't handle a large group, why allow the booking?

All of our food was cooking incredibly well, you get a few starters like miso soup, salad and prawns, however we didn't get served our main until 9pm - rather late considering the organiser was under the impression that when we booked for 7.30pm, our chefs would come to our table at 7.30pm. We had also pre-ordered, yet they took our orders again when we were seated.

I'm also not a fan of how each part of the meal is served separately. You get the veggies (usually onion and courgette), then you get your meat, then you get mushrooms, then you get mung beans. If you wait until the mung beans go on your plate, everything else would be cold, but why would you want to eat onion, courgette and mung beans by themselves? It is a tiny bit odd.

The entertainment value is great, the food is delicious, but I think it is overpriced and was very disorganised.

Daikoku is new and located in the Centre Place Dining Lane. It is definitely somewhere you go for the atmosphere, as although the food is good, I felt it was somewhat overpriced. The set menus start from around $33 a head, and while you do get your meat, salad, miso soup etc, it's not a cheap night out. Our chef happened to be brand new (it was his first night) but he still did a good job. Be prepared to try and catch food in your mouth ... it didn't appear to be optional!

I am going back again a few weeks for a work Christmas dinner so will be good to see if they have gotten better since opening day, and see if I can find a cheaper way to eat there!
