HISTORY
Waikato Stadium is the largest sporting and events centre in Hamilton. The site of Waikato Stadium has been the home of rugby in Waikato since Rugby Park first opened in 1925. The current stadium was opened in 2002 and will have a capacity of 30,000 for Rugby World Cup 2011.

Memorable moments
  • A 1981 New Zealand v South Africa is called off due to the pitch being invaded by protesters of South Africa‚Äôs apartheid policy
  • Rugby Park hosted a match in the inaugural Rugby World Cup; Fiji v Argentina
  • Construction of current Waikato Stadium commenced in 2000, opening in 2002

    RUGBY WORLD CUP GAMES
    Waikato Stadium will play host to the following games of the 2011 Rugby World Cup:
  • New Zealand v Japan (8pm September 16)
  • Wales v Samoa (3.30pm September 25)
  • Wales v Fiji (6pm October 2)

    PUBLIC TRANSPORT
    There will be a free shuttle bus service departing from Hood Street to Waikato Stadium before and after the games.
